A High-Performance Piezoresistive Pressure Sensor for Bio-Healthcare Wearables
Recently, flexible piezoresistive sensors that is attachable to skin easily with simple principles have been in the spotlight. In this study, PANI-nanospine (polyaniline-nanospine) structures were uniformly deposited on the surface of nanofiber to form a rough surface, thereby improving pressure detection ranges, sensitivity, and detection limits in various ranges. The nanofibrous membrane has a rough surface which improves the contact area between the electrode and the sensing layer when PANI-nanospine layer is formed as a multilayer, which improves sensitivity, low detection limit, and range of pressure detection. In addition, the sensor is covered with PDMS on top and bottom Cu electrode for flexible and skin-attachable piezoresistive pressure sensor which can be protected from external conditions. The fabricated piezoresistive pressure sensor exhibited excellent linearity in a wide detection range up to 50 kPa, high sensitivity of 179.1 kPa-1, and excellent durability through 10,000 loading/unloading pressure repetition of 10 kPa at 1 Hz frequency.
