Polyaniline-Nanospikes Modified Hybrid Nanofibrous Membrane Based Flexible Piezoresistive Sensor For Physiological Signal Monitoring

In this work, we present a novel approach for enhancing the sensitivity and working range of a piezoresistive pressure sensor by fabricating polyaniline-nanospikes (PANI-nanospikes) array on hierarchical carbon nanofibers. As a primary sensing material, PANI-nanospikes are uniformly deposited on the surface of the carbon nanofibers, which consist of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), cellulose, and MXene to realize the flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor with extremely high sensitivity (179.1 kPa −1 ) and low detection limit (1.2 Pa). Since the hybrid nanofibrous membranes are highly deformable and stable, the sensor exhibits a linear response over a broad pressure range (0 – 50 kPa) with a high durability (10,000 cycles). The fabricated sensor is successfully assembled and demonstrated to continuously monitor physiological signals for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.
